The above shows the character’s design features fully implemented as well as a more detailed foreground on the right. Rendering the background on the same layer will be a struggle, made more tragic by the fact that this is my own doing for switching software and not taking the time to explore its functions. ANYWAY, the below image is the earlier stage, depicting me debating whether or not to include an ‘apple’ slice (Read fully rendered package) in the character’s mouth. I decided not to, simply because the ‘apples’ are already established in the scene, and it took away the opportunity to add drool indicating the absence of control the character has over their brain due to being hooked up to computers. This sticks to the ‘futuristic’aspect of the brief involving the advancements of technology.

I opted for this seated perspective where the character is surrounded by monitors, completely immersed. I was inspired by the escapism that games provide (mentioned in previous posts) and the rise of Virtual Reality headsets being so common for personal use. The foreground will have the snacks based on my former list of ways to comment on consumerism and the easy marketability of artificial and harmful products. This is meant to be an exaggeration for the viewer, so each snack will be a reference to in-organic matter being used satirically as sustenance for humans, e,g the mention of factory smoke and sludge. This leads me to the inspiration from ‘Cyberpunk 2077’. Posing the question of how much of a human is still organic once the interference of computers takes over crucial parts of the body such as the brain (refering back to the brain chip on other posts). To reference this I placed a robot rights sticker, creating a more lived in space and posing the ethical question of robots and sentience to the viewer. I chose this bright, cybercore, neon green as it is an artificial type of green you don’t typically see I nature. It may also evoke the imagery of harsh chemicals/science and aliens. I chose a cat to be in the box on the right because it is the only 100% organic matter in the whole image (the human is compromised with computer signals interfering with the brain). I also chose it to be staring innocently up at a chord in obliviousness of man-made horrors. It remains in the box as cats typically love boxes and this gives a sense of normalcy, emotional familiarity and realism. This portrayed reality being so close to being true.

The format has been sectioned into quarters of a circle between the 4 team members. I wanted to capture a literal, visual representation of communication and illustration in tandem. Language being shown through symbolism dotted around the scene, and the drawing itself being a meta commentary on the concept of illustration communicating a message.

The yellow pages are rectangular prints, these 3 will be the bases for graffiti details layered over the top. I will use these pictures taken as reference for the colours and graffiti design. Since all my work will be based on cafés and small independent coffee shops I replaced the typical warning sign with a coffee cup.
