layered worlds internal sketches. Submission based on peer feedback.

I decided to use the same helpful concept learned from the landscape building tutorial and have foreground characters overlapping middle and background characters and objects to create depth in the scene. The colours will be relatively similar to the pastels of my external piece but will have more purple, blue and red tones as the setting will be based on night time. I am still figuring out which character colours will be helpful and cohesive enough to use, as well as being Indicative enough of diversity in a utopic society. The tool I used for this is Krita, and I select a desaturated blue or purple to give the effect that a steely grey would have for the interior but is not too dull as it is not technically on the grey scale. The colours of the animals and people will contrast the past environment that human ancestors lived in, comparably more cold due to technological advancements. This negativity is contrasted with positive characters, bright view into the exterior through the pod window. And the knowledge that technology has the positive impact of bringing the humans to a new planet where they exponentially evolved to live among nature in bliss.

Layered worlds (new) external process

a softer colour pallete, symbiosis, society advanced beyond hyper consciousness. Comparable to the garden of Eden concept before the fall of man. Remnants of the past technology that brought humans to this new planet are not needed (for their original purpose) and have been integrated into sustainable ideal society

rework and abandonment

After reworking this piece I was informed that I was mistaken about what the brief asks of us. In light of this I will be discarding this image and creating an entirely new concept based form the text segments I have noted about what the brief requires. Stacey also suggested some inspiration material based on my previous direction, noted above the brief quotes.

Layered worlds (internal) full rendering ver.2

making the area more cluttered and dirty was definitely an improvement. The visuals being overwhelming reflects the characters overwhelming desperation for escapis m through the form of virtual simulation (indicated also by the diy attempt of rigging computer components together, inspired by ‘serial experiments lain’. The compiled food and drink scraps indicate prolongued isolation and more artificial consumption (like how escaping to the virtual world is artificial consumption that will never make you feel truly full and nourished). In relation to the future, rather than this being a reflection of how many operate now, I wanted to include a close future, more fearful to comprehend as tragedy within your lifetime. The technology to contribute to this escapism from reality seems deviant opposed to the natural state of human comprehension. It further raises the question of what is true reality, the real world’s false and empty ideals (based in consumerism (hence the wrappers)) are just as artificial as a constructed one.
