making the area more cluttered and dirty was definitely an improvement. The visuals being overwhelming reflects the characters overwhelming desperation for escapis m through the form of virtual simulation (indicated also by the diy attempt of rigging computer components together, inspired by ‘serial experiments lain’. The compiled food and drink scraps indicate prolongued isolation and more artificial consumption (like how escaping to the virtual world is artificial consumption that will never make you feel truly full and nourished). In relation to the future, rather than this being a reflection of how many operate now, I wanted to include a close future, more fearful to comprehend as tragedy within your lifetime. The technology to contribute to this escapism from reality seems deviant opposed to the natural state of human comprehension. It further raises the question of what is true reality, the real world’s false and empty ideals (based in consumerism (hence the wrappers)) are just as artificial as a constructed one.
